About

I’m Jeff Hoel.  I’m a retired electrical engineer.  I moved to Palo Alto in 1998 in part because the local newspaper was saying that fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) was just around the corner.  It’s still just around the corner.  I have been actively advocating for citywide municipal fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) since 2002.  I started this website because Chris Mitchell at the Institute for Local Self-Reliance‘s Community Broadband Networks initiative convinced me that it’s going to take a lot of community support to convince Palo Alto City government to move forward with citywide municipal FTTP, and a website would be one way to ask the community for that support.”

Many thanks to ILSR for the nudge, and for the hosting and technical support.
